Ernest and his Elizabeth lived at 38 Boreham Rd Warminster,until hi s father
sold him # 16 Imber Road. They both lived in this houseuntil they di ed.
He was apprenticed to the Warminster Motor Company as adriver mechan ic, later
serving in the army as a driver of 'lorries' (trucks) inFrance durin g World
War 1.
He later worked for Buttons of East St Warminster, who weregeneral h auliers,
Charabang operators, (a small bus), and suppliers offuneral and wedd ing cars.
The company was responsible for the import & export of mostof the pr oduct made
and consumed in Warminster, as they made daily pickups anddeliverie s all
around the area, travelling as far as Bristol.
Ernest worked long hours, and spent his spare timegardening, tendin g his
vegetables and plums.
The marriage certificate of Ernest and Elizabeth Portershow that Ern est was
divorced from Mary Maddock in 1921, and he lived at 20Imber Rd, Warm inster.
His father was shown as a carpenter, and Elizabeth'sfather, James Po rter, as athatcher. The witnesses wereHerbert Charles Titt and Mar y Louisa Porter. Both
parties were 34 years old. Elizabeth's address wasNorthfield House,
Baltonsborough.
