Notes for Doris Mary Titt
Doris left home at 17, to go 'into service' for a family in Surrey. She lived
there for about 4 years, and this gave her the groundingfor the way she raised
her family in later years.
Doris is a very orderly person. Everything has a place, schedules ar e always
met, and the house is always clean and tidy. She was ableto work ful l time in
the Avon Rubber plant and still raise 3 children in abeautifully kep t home.
She was a cleaner in the Avon and then also went on theproduction line making
bicycle tires and golf grips. She was an extremely hardworker, neve r able to
sit still for more than 5 minutes and was a bit of aworrier.
It awful hard for a son in law to say nice things about his mother i n law, but
she is quite nice really! There- I said it!
When questioned about her natural mother, Doris told the following story.
"We girls were not very old. I can remember living with ourgrand-parents for a
while, and vaguely my father's marriage, but his first wife was never discussed
in front of us, so I don't really know what caused the breakup, and I must
admit I never did remember her, it was something best forgotten anywa y."
