Notes for John Titt
The will of John Titt.

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Titt ofChitterne Al l Saints in
the county of Wiltshire Farmer.
I appoint my son John Wallis Titt and my friend Tom WilliamTimbrel l of
Sherrington in the county of Wilts Miller Executors andTrustees of t his my
will. And I give devise and bequeath all the property bothreal and p ersonal of
which I shall be possessed at the time of my decease untomy said tru stees John
Wallis Titt and Tom William Timbrell upon trust as soon asconvenient ly may be
after my decease to sell and convert into money all suchpart thereo f as to pay
thereout of my just debts funeral and testamonary expensesand the ex penses of
the execution of the trusts of this my will and afterpayment thereo f to invest
the residue of the monies to arise from such sale andconversion upo n such
securities as they in their discretion shall think fit andfrom tim e to time
with the consent of my wife Eliza Titt during her life andafter he r death at
their discretion to alter and vary all such investments andall inves tment of
property subsisting at my death
And upon further trust to pay the interest dividends andannual proce eds of my
property until sale and conversion and the interestdividends and ann ualproceeds of the investments afterconversion unto my said wife ELi za Titt
during her life for her own absolute use and benefit andafter the de ath of my
said wife my said Trustees shall stand posessed of the ofthe princip al of my
said property and the investments of the proceeds thereofand of th e interest
dividends and annual proceeds thereof upon trust to pay anddivide th e same
into and equally between my seven children namely WilliamWallis Titt , Mary
Eliza the wife of John Sainsbury of West Lavington, Wilts.,ELizabeth
Buckeridge Titt, the said John Wallis Titt, George Titt,Louisa Tit t and
Frederick Isaac Titt for their own absolute use andbenefit. I empowe r my said
trustees during the life of my said wife and with herconsent to post pone the
sale and conversion of all or any part of my property andwith the li ke consent
to carry on during her life my business of a farmer carriedon by m e at
Chitterne and for such purpose I give to them all suchpowers as ma y be
necessary for the due and proper carrying on of the saidfarm. I dire ct that my
son William Wallis Titt shall give credit for one hundredand fifty p ounds
advanced by me in his lifetime to him and that my son JohnWallis Tit t shall
give credit for the sum of thirty pounds advanced by my inhis lifeti me and
such sums shall be taken to form part of the residue of myestate an d neither
of my sons shall take any benefit under this Will withoutfirst accou nting for
the sum so advanced by him. In witness whereof I havehereunto set m y hand this
twenty sixth day of march 1874.

John was churchwarden 1838-64 at Chitterne with HenryHitchcock, an d Eliza
Wallis's brother William.
They ware wardens at the time the new church foundationstone was lai d, and the
total cost of the church was 2404 pounds.

1856 also Overseer and Waywarden.

In the 1851 Census he farmed 220 acres and employed 10labourers.
