Thomas took over the lease of the Farm at Overtown Manor Farm, a hamlet south of Wroughton.

Thomas 1st is mentioned in Land Tax Assessments from 1780 in Wroughton. In 1795 he bought part of the farm, and leased other properties in Wroughton Village itself, including a mill. The Washbourn family became wealthy because of the acumen of Thomas 1st

Thomas 1st
died, and was buried with Mary in a stone chest tomb next to their daughter Ann’s grave, under the great yew tree.

Thomas 1st left the leases and running of Overtown Farm to his two sons John and Abraham, as Thomas 2nd had been set up in his own business.
