Archie was a gardener for most of his life, although hestarted wor k as a
'surgery boy', working for a local doctor. His daughtervaguely remem bers
conversations about 'things in jars' and him going out withthe docto r on his
rounds, sitting in the back of the car with the doctor'sdog. He als o talked of
operations being carried out on kitchen tables. She thinkshe washed
medicine bottles and delivered medicines. However he didnot do thi s job too
long, before he embarked on his gardening career, where heworked mai nly for
local doctors.
In the war (being too old for service) he was an air raidwarden.

He was a regular church goer, and church warden at theMinster Church.
