Notes for Alan Titt
Alan was killed in a plane crash, returning from a holidayin Russia.
Alan's parents wanted to erect a headstone in memory oftheir son, bu t found
complications with the church. An article in the localpaper tells th e story.

According to cousin Margaret Tobias, Alan was travellingback from Ru ssia with
his girlfriend Beryl. She was ill with the flu and theycaught a late r flight.
This plane crashed when coming in to land in fog,apparantly hittin g a chimney
stack and dropping into Copenhagen Harbour. They were on aYoung Soci alist'
trip, and got engaged while they were there. She waswearing the rin g when they
found the body. They went out by boat and train. Alan wasthe brigh t boy of the
family. He worked at Harwell and London for the Council.

APPEAL WAS WITHDRAWN Question of Minster Gravestone.

An appeal concerning a grave in the Minster churchyardWarminster, wa s due to
have been heard by the court of Arches at WestminsterAbbey, London , on Friday,
but the case was withdrawn and the court did not sit.
Had the appeal been heard, it would have been brought by mrAlbert Cy ril Titt,
of Victoria Rd, Warminster, against the refusal of theChancellor o f Salisbury
Diocese to allow him to place a kerb and gravestone ofpolished grani te in the
churchyard.
The Court of Arches is the final court of appeal in allecclesiastica l causes
in the province of Canterbury except those which, in theopinion of t he
appelant, are heard byt the Judicial Committee of the PrivyCouncil . It is one
of th oldest courts in the country, and its jurisdiction ismentione d as early
as the 12th century. When Mr Titt was seen by the WiltshireTimes h e said, "No
comment".
