interest.
"My mother, Francis, often spoke fondly of her girlhood inGagetown , New
Brunswick, of boating trips and picnics, of sleigh rides inwinter. T he Saint
John River seemed to be the focus of much of the activity.There wer e favorite
cousins, and there were trips to Saint John and toFredericton for fa mily
visits and for professional portrait taking. Mobilitydidn't seem t o be a
problem. My grandfather was a doctor and they had servants."
