In a book called 'The Heart of A Village (Aldbourne):-
In the late 16th century Diana Caswell at Upper Upham,farmed in a
considerable way over part of the Warren and in 'SheeplyBottom' (no w Sipley
Bottom), a place where 'sheep leight', or the right ofpasturing shee p existed.

AN ABSTRACT of the Claims of the several Persons, BodiesPolitic and
Corporate, having or claiming any Right or Interest in orupon the La nds
and Grounds intended to be divided, allotted, laid inseveralty and
inclosed by Virtue of an Act passed in the Forty-fifth Yearof the Re ign
of King George the Third, intituled, "An Act for allottingLands in t he
Township and Parish of Aldbourn otherwise Aldborneotherwise Alborn e in
the County of Wilts".

Property.
A Right to the Soil in and over the Commons and WasteLands within
the said Township & Parish of Aldbourne, otherwiseAldborne, otherw ise
Alborne.

A Farm and Lands called Upper Upham, now in theOccupation of Mr.
William Church, containing by Statute Measure, fivehundred and one
Acres, three Roods, and four Poles, eighty-six Cow orBeast Commons
in and over the Commons called the Chase and Southwood,and all such
other Right of Common and Pasturage for Cows, Beasts, andother Cat tle,
as are appendant, appurtenant, or belonging to the sameFarm and La nds
in and over any of the Commons or Commonable Lands withinthe said
Township or Parish of Aldbourn.

Such Proportion of the Ancient Warren belonging to ThomasBaskervil le,
Esquire, within the said Parish of Aldbourn, in oneentire Piece, in
the situation and to the extent mentioned in the said Actof Parlia ment,
as in the Judgment of George Barnes, one of theCommissioners menti oned
in the said Act, will be a full equivalent andCompensation for the
Sheep, Sleight and Right of Pasturage for Sheep kept andmaintained
upon the said Farm called Upper Upham Farm, and all otherthe Rights
and Interests of the said Diana Caswell (as owner of theFarm and
Lands aforesaid) in and over the said Warren.

Objection to any or either of the Proprietor's Claims, youare reques ted
to reduce the same into Writing, and send it to theCommissioners a t their
next Meeting, to be holden at the Crown Inn in ALDBOURN, onTuesday t he
27th Day of May Instant, in Order that the Party may besummoned to A ppear
and Substantiate his or her Claim, at such Time and Placeas the
Commissioners shall appoint for that Purpose.

In the notes of Iris Mildenhall, were the followingremarks:-
Upper Upham Farm & Manor belonged in 1780 to TimothyCaswell who wa s suceeded
in 1820 by his daughter Diana. The Manor and farm sold in1834 probab ly to John Round. (Salisbury Journal)
