g-great grandfather, Willis Hackman, his father's trombone professor incollege, and William Maurice (Bubby) McWhorter, a close friend of hisparents. Since then, it has been discovered that the name William isfound in several branches of his family tree, so William is really afamily name. David was another name considered. This name came fromDavid Zahrndt, a former student of his father and from the Bible, David,the son of Jesse. David was Kelsey's choice.
"On the day Spencer was born, I played a church job that morning justsouth of Louisville. I called to check on Laura and things were fine soI went to lunch and then to a rehearsal in Louisville that afternoon.Upon arriving at the rehearsal, John Little, an orchestra member andfriend, told me that I needed to call Laura. Picking on John like I do,I didn't believe him. This exchange went on for a few minutes with himtelling me nothing but I needed to call Laura. Kim Lloyd, the musicdirector, took me outside the building to use her cell phone and sureenough, her water had broke. Needless to say, I didn't stay. I startedout calmly and got faster the closer I got to E'town."
